About Me

I am Opedun Philip, an Electrical Engineer with over three years of experience in solar system design and installation. Currently, I work as a Solar Design Engineer and Developer at Solarika Energy, a company operating in Uganda and South Sudan.

My career journey began in traditional electrical fields such as domestic and industrial wiring. However, I never felt truly passionate or fulfilled in that line of work. It was during a renewable energy conference that I attended a session on solar power, and that moment changed everything for me. The idea of clean, renewable energy harnessed from the sun inspired me deeply. I realized that my electrical engineering background could be applied to a field that aligned more closely with my values.

My Journey with SENDEA

Once I discovered my passion for solar energy, my biggest challenge was finding the right institution to equip me with the necessary skills. After researching, I came across an advertisement from SENDEA Academy about a 5-week training in Design, Installation, and Maintenance of Solar Systems at Nakawa Vocational Training Institute, starting in May 2023.

This opportunity transformed my career. The training gave me the technical knowledge and hands-on experience I needed to transition into the solar industry. With the help of SENDEA Academy, I secured an internship at SolarNow, where I trained under some of the best Commercial and Industrial solar engineers. This experience sharpened my skills and set me on the path to where I am today.

Career Aspirations

I am dedicated to advancing solar energy solutions and contributing to the expansion of renewable energy in Africa. My goal is to design and implement innovative solar power systems that provide sustainable, affordable energy to communities in need. I also hope to mentor young professionals interested in pursuing careers in solar engineering.
